Project overview
With CERF funding, UNFPA implemented a life-saving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) response across Turkana, Wajir, Mandera, and Marsabit counties to mitigate the impact of the drought emergency. The project reached 275,169 beneficiaries, exceeding initial targets, by providing maternal health services, family planning, and GBV prevention and response mechanisms. Over 93,273 women accessed skilled birth attendance, 67,092 received family planning services, and 35,972 men utilized condoms for dual protection. Additionally, the project provided dignity kits, sanitary pads, and mama kits to 155,494 individuals, serving as an entry point for GBV services. 11,160 GBV survivors and those at risk received response services, while 49,083 beneficiaries accessed mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), significantly improving community well-being. UNFPA also trained 1,922 frontline aid workers to enhance GBV prevention and response capacities.UNFPA's interventions played a key role in reducing morbidity and mortality, ensuring women and vulnerable populations had continuous access to essential reproductive health and protection services
