Emergency agriculture and livestock-based livelihood support for the recently conflict affected populations in El Geneina Locality in West Darfur State (21-RR-FAO-005)

Project overview

With this CERF-funded project, FAO managed to provide life-saving agricultural support to conflict-affected displaced, returnee, nomadic and resident households in El Geneina locality in West Darfur state. Designed to prevent further loss of productive assets of the affected populations, the project provided agriculture support to 20,000 vulnerable farmers (at least 30% were women) to produce their own food and enhance their income. The agriculture support included distribution of certified crop, legume and vegetable seeds, hand tools and quick refresher training on improved agronomic practices during inputs’ distribution. Additionally, FAO and its partners provided livestock inputs to 4,000 vulnerable agro-pastoralists while also providing vaccination and animal treatment for more than 100,000 animals belonging to an additional 10,000 agro-pastoralists. In total, the project reached 34,000 people, including 9,220 women and 8,090 girls.
