CERF Allocation

Mozambique

Flood, 21 Jan 2026

Overview

Intense and prolonged rainfall has caused widespread flooding, especially across Gaza, Maputo and Sofala provinces. Almost 600,000 people have been affected, with numbers expected to rise as rain continue, particularly in Gaza Province. Tens of thousands of houses and dozens of health facilities have been damaged, key transport routes are impassable, and thousands of people have been displaced. Many accommodation centres are overcrowded. Displacement and overcrowding have heightened protection risks, especially for women, children, older persons and people with disabilities. Risks of disease outbreaks have increased due to damaged water infrastructure and reduced access to health services. On 16 January 2026, the Government declared a nationwide Red Alert.
