CERF Allocation

Colombia

Displacement/Migration, 27 Feb 2025

Overview of the humanitarian situation

In just over a week, starting mid-January 2025, more than 200,000 people have been affected by the eruption of hostilities between non-state armed groups in the Catatumbo region of Colombia. This includes 48,000 displaced and an estimated 25,000 confined to their communities. This was the gravest escalation of violence the country has experienced since the 2016 peace agreement. A dedicated response plan to this new crisis requires $30 million. The country team has identified priority needs in the areas of food assistance, non-food items, shelter, healthcare, water, and protection services.

CERF-funded assistance

In response to the crisis, the Emergency Relief Coordinator allocated $3.8m from CERF’s Rapid Response window. This funding enables UN agencies and partners to provide emergency, life-saving assistance to 58,010 people, including 24,620 women, 16,032 men and 17,358 children in the Food Security, Shelter and Non-Food Items, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Nutrition and Protection sectors (with a focus on child protection and gender-based violence).
