CERF Allocation

Bolivia

Flood, 17 Apr 2025

Overview of the humanitarian situation

Since November 2024, Bolivia has faced a severe and escalating humanitarian crisis caused by extreme weather events. Landslides, river overflows, and mudflows have disproportionately impacted vulnerable families and Indigenous populations in municipalities of the Amazon region. As of 22 April 2025, the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense reported 58 deaths, over 576,840 people affected, 9,789 homes damaged, and 8,265 communities impacted. More than 60% of the total damage occurred in the last six weeks due to widespread river flooding in three regions of the country. On 26 March the national Government declared a state of emergency.

CERF-funded assistance

In response to the crisis, the Emergency Relief Coordinator allocated $1 million from CERF's Rapid Response window for the immediate commencement of life-saving activities. This funding enables UN agencies and partners to provide life-saving assistance to 15,500 people, including 3,960 women, 4,650 men, and 6,890 children in the Food Security and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sectors.
