Project overview
The armed conflict between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that began on 15 April, 2023 has severely challenged WFPs operational capacity given the security risks to staff since the unfortunate killing of 3 WFP staff. While UNHAS operations in country were halted along with all WFP operations at the onset of the conflict, UNHAS services became vital to the evacuation measures and further humanitarian flight services since the resumption of activities. UNHAS has therefore become critical to common services to humanitarian partners within Sudan. Under the CERF project, UNHAS now perform airbridge operations, initially connecting humanitarians between Port Sudan and Jeddah. Further locations are anticipated to be set for the airbridge as operations progress. (likely Nairobi/Port Sudan and Addis Ababa/Port Sudan - both currently pending confirmation).
