With this CERF-funded project, UNICEF ensured the continuity of and improved access to quality education for 13,082 girls and 9,406 boys from the IDP and host communities by way of establishing 124 classrooms. Moreover, 690 teachers and teaching assistants were trained to provide quality education. Furthermore, with funding from CERF, UNICEF managed to improve access to water and sanitation in gathering points accessible to both Masalit and Arab tribe communities. Water trucking supplied more than 52,000 people with safe water for drinking and personal hygiene while an estimated 35,000 additional people gained access to water following the rehabilitation of vital water infrastructure such as water yards and handpumps. In total, more than 84,438 people benefitted from improved access to water and sanitation, including 17,971 women and 26,839 girls.
