Supporting the emergency health response to population displacements due to inter-communal conflict in El Geneina, West Darfur (21-RR-WHO-007)

Project overview

The project supports the emergency health response after internal displacement due to inter-communal violence in the area of El Geneina in West Darfur. The objective of the project is to improve access to and quality of health care for displaced people and thus, to contribute to a reduction of morbidity and mortality in the target population. The project comprises the following activities: (1) provision of essential medicines, diagnostics and basic equipment for primary health care and referral health facilities including Covid-19-related supplies and diagnostics tests, (2) operational support to 7 mobile and fixed primary health care facilities including isolation centres in case of a Covid-19 outbreak in El Geneina during the implementation period, (3) strengthening medical waste management in primary and secondary health care facilities receiving displaced people in El Geneina and its surroundings through medical waste management campaigns, (4) strengthening disease surveillance and rapid response teams interventions to improve early detection, tracing and containment of diseases with epidemic potential among the vulnerable population, (5) strengthening vector surveillance in order to orient vector control interventions of health partners and WHO to reduce the transmission in the displaced and host community. The project targets 135,000 affected people.
