Project overview

The main objective of this project is to provide life-saving WASH, nutrition, shelter/NFI, child protection and education assitance to IDPs, returnees and host communities in Ituri (Djugu, Mahagi), Nord-Kivu (Masisi), Sud-Kivu (Fizi), and Tanganyika (Kabalo, Kalemie, Manono). This UNICEF project provides access to fresh drinking water including through the construction of boreholes; improves WASH in schools and health centres including through the rehabilitation of latrines and the installation of hand-washing stations; treats severe acute malnutrition in children and pregnant and lacating women; provides pscyho-social support to children; distributes education kits and provides NFI kits. The WASH component of this project provides life-saving assistance to 124,628 people, including 25,923 women, 35,893 boys and 38,883 girls. The nutrition component provides life-saving assistance to 45,190 people including 41,340 women, 1,848 boys and 2,002 girls. The shelter/NFI component provides life-saving assistance to 84,000 peoole, including 17,640 women, 25,200 boys and 24,360 girls. The child protection component provides life-saving assistance to 16,000 people, including 2,000 women, 6,000 boys and 6,000 girls. The education component provides life-saving assistance to 14,790 people including 125 women, 6,980 boys and 7,560 girls.
