Logistics Augmentation and Coordination to Support Humanitarian Operations in Northwest Syria (20-RR-WFP-007)

Project overview

WFP as lead agency of the Logistics Cluster will be targeting or assisting all humanitarian organizations responding to the Syria crisis through their own programmatic sectors. The Logistics Cluster will have a coordination base in Gaziantep, and staff based in the two cross-border hubs in Kilis and Reyhanli. It will facilitate and fast track the delivery of humanitarian cargo of UN agencies from Turkey into northwest Syria by coordinating transshipment operations through UNSCR 2504 via Bab al-Hawa/Reyhanli and Bab al-Salam/Kilis border crossings. This means coordinating with UNMM, Turkish customs authorities, UNDSS and other UN agencies, whereby all organizations collaborate and work together to ensure a streamlined operation. In addition, the Logistics Cluster is responsible for setting contracts with the hub owners and taking all the necessary security measures so that the operations will not be interrupted, and if needs arise it will coordinate with the authorities and partners to rapidly increase its transhipment capacity at both crossing-points to meet humanitarian organizations' programme demands.
