CERF-funded Project

Somalia

Anticipatory interventions in Somaliland, Puntland and Hirshabelle states of Somalia (20-RR-CEF-043)

Project overview

The main objective of this project is to mitigate disease outbreaks and other consequences of water shortage - and therewith enhance the population's ability to withstand the impacts of the triple threat of locust, COVID-19 and flooding - by supplying clean water for humans and livestock. UNICEF will use the $2.05 million from CERF to rehabilitate 20 boreholes and 35 shallow wells, and disinfect 250 shallow wells, which will serve 200,000 Somalia, including 70,736 displaced persons. In addition, UNICEF will provide 10,000 hygiene kits and conduct hygiene promotion with a focus on hand washing with soap.
