Emergency response to Ethiopian refugees in Eastern Sudan (20-RR-HCR-033)

Project overview

The objective of this project is to provide protection and assistance to newly arrived Ethiopian refugees in Sudan. With CERF funding, UNHCR and partners individually register arriving refugees to ensure access to services in refugee sites. Hot meals are provided to refugees as a protection activity during the first days of their arrival to stabilize them after their flight. Shelter needs are covered through the provision of initially communal shelter and safe shelter solutions for families. UNHCR establishes COVID-19 isolation centers to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to treat identified cases. Additionally, the project strengthens health outreach services and antenatal care and thereby complements existing health services that are funded through other sources. The project will be implemented in Hamdayet, Kassala, Village 8, Um Rakuba and Tunaydbah, Gedaref, and targets 50,000 refugees.
