Underfunded Emergencies Window: 2016 second allocation

The Emergency Relief Coordinator has approved $50 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) during the 2016 second underfunded emergencies allocation round to assist about 2 million people in neglected crises in six countries. The funds will sustain life-saving relief in emergencies where human suffering is alarmingly high, but available resources are critically low. The funding will address three humanitarian priorities:

• The severe humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where more people are in need of humanitarian assistance than anywhere else ($13 million)

• The continuing but more and more forgotten humanitarian emergencies in central Africa, which are mostly caused by conflict, political instability and human rights violations, and compounded by food insecurity and disease outbreaks, with allocations to the Central African Republic ($9m), Chad ($10m) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC, $11m), as well as for refugees from Burundi and DRC in Rwanda ($5m).

• Protracted and underfunded needs in Eritrea ($2m)
