Report of the Secretary General 2010

The present report describes the activities of the Central Emergency Response Fund from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011. The Fund continues to demonstrate its effectiveness as a tool for collective emergency response. During the period, the Emergency Relief Coordinator allocated $342 million from the Fund to support lifesaving activities in 43 countries and territories. The five-year evaluation of the Fund was finalized during this reporting period, providing invaluable independent insight into the Fund’s strengths and weaknesses. The evaluation is largely positive in its assessment of the Fund but also identifies areas for improvement. A management response plan has been developed by the Central Emergency Response Fund secretariat, which provides a road map for moving forward.
